Bike or van? Choosing the right vehicle for your delivery

Most people over-book vans and under-book them at the wrong times. The choice comes down to four things: weight, dimensions, fragility and how many drops are on the run.

Book a bike when

A bike is faster through traffic and cheaper per trip, and it covers most single-drop city work.

  • The item is under roughly 20kg and fits in a rider box.
  • There is one pickup and one drop.
  • Speed matters more than protection from vibration.
  • The route crosses congested corridors where a van will crawl.

Book a van when

Vans win on capacity and stability, and on runs with several stops.

  • The load is bulky, stacked or over roughly 20kg.
  • Goods are fragile, framed or must stay upright.
  • There are multiple drops on one run — a batched van beats several bike trips.
  • It is a store restock, a weekly grocery shop or an office move.

The cost difference is a base fare, not a multiplier

Both bike and van runs are priced by distance: a base fare plus a per-kilometre rate. The van simply starts from a higher base. On a long multi-drop route, one van often costs less than three separate bike trips.

When in doubt, describe the load

Enter the pickup and drop-off on the booking screen and the fare for each option appears before you confirm. If the load is genuinely borderline, the 24/7 call centre will size it with you rather than guess.
